Abstract:  The Parish collection has a wealth of correspondence and research notes pertaining to the Riggs, Riddell, Ferris, Parish, and allied families. These families arrived in the U.S. from Europe and moved west from New Jersey to Iowa to California. The bulk of the collection is correspondence dating to the 1980s. Many of the letters are quite long and give detailed information about the families. Of particular interest are letters from Mr. Parish’s great-grandfather including one sent shortly after a battle during the Civil War. There are also copies of wills, pension files, Bible registers, and other records, some of which may be unique to this collection.
