Indian War Pensions
Our index has been extracted from Virgil D. White’s book, Index to Pension Applications for Indian Wars Service between 1817–1898, (National Historical Publishing Company, 1997), which is a compilation of pension applications for various Indian Wars during the above-mentioned period. The pension applications are located at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. The criteria used for this index is as follows: either the soldier served in an Oregon military unit; or the soldier, or his widow, applied for a pension in Oregon. White’s book gives additional information, often other services, aliases, and, sometimes, date and place of death. If there is an alias, be sure to check both names for the information.
