Support Education

The GFO is an all-volunteer organization. We depend on our members for support and expertise. You can help serve our educational mission in a variety of ways:

  • Pre-event support - We produce two major educational seminars per year, and it's all hands on deck! Whether it's stuffing marketing flyers in envelopes, shopping for snacks, or helping with set-up, there's probably something you can do to assist.  If you are willing and able to provide more comprehensive marketing support for our events, we'd really like to hear from you!
  • On-site event support - As much as there is to do before our seminars, there's also plenty to be done the day of.  We need people to help staff the raffle and book sales tables, to help in the kitchen with the morning snacks and sack lunches, to circulate among attendees selling raffle tickets, and to help tear everything down once it's over.  Our Half-Day Workshops are much smaller in scale, but we can always use a person or two to help set up the room, check people in, dispense name tags & handouts, and set the room to rights at the end.
  • Donate raffle items - We are always on the lookout for interesting and desirable items for the raffle at our two seminars per year.  Most items are genealogy-related (DNA kit, one-year website subscription, recently-published genealogy book, etc.), but they don't necessarily have to be. If you have an item to donate or are willing to solicit donations, we'd love to hear from you!
  • Teach a class or deliver a presentation - If you have expertise about a particular genealogy topic, and are able to share that expertise with others on either a regular or a one-time basis, please let us know.

All donations of money and/or items with monetary value are tax deductible.  Please refer to our Donations page for details.
