Abstract: The bulk of the Magedanz Collection is correspondence between Betty Magedanz and family members, repositories, and other researchers. Betty’s search for her mother’s family began when she was 17 and found out that the woman who raised her was not her biological mother. She reached out to others to fill in the pieces of her mother’s life and quickly became interested in her ancestors. The most common surnames are Hersey and Yates. The family records are found in Michigan and Massachusetts. Betty was able to trace the families back to colonial times.
