Hiday Collection 2012-24

Hiday Collection

Summary

Title: Hiday Collection

Bulk Dates: 1740-1972

Accession Number: 2012-24

Creator: Nellie (Cropper) Hiday (1892-1979)

Extent: 4 boxes containing 240 files

Language:  English

Abstract: Genealogical research and correspondence as collected and compiled by Nellie Hiday. The 240 file folders contain correspondence, research notes, and copies of documents from a variety of sources. In addition, there are biographical sketches and family group sheets compiled from various sources plus a few photos. Common surnames include Ball, Claypoole, Culver, Ellison, Salyer, and Skewis.

It is likely that many of these surnames were not related to Mrs. Hiday or her husband, as documented trees do not include many of the names. They could be families who married into her line, or they could be from research that she did for others. Her correspondence indicates that she did research in response to inquiries to the Genealogical Forum of Oregon as well as independent research on early pioneers.

Though the collection was contained in several boxes, the file folders were mostly arranged alphabetically, sometimes by surname and sometimes by the name of the correspondent. It is common to find family group sheets that relate directly to the names included in the letters or documents.
