Abstract: The materials include transcribed sections from Frederick Parker Davis's work, Sketches of the Life and Character of Berryman Kenchin Davis, Major 43d Missouri Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War, including biographical sketches, diary entries, and letters from various family members. These materials follow the family's Westward migration across the United States in the 1800s. Additional items include the author's census notes, pedigree charts, and a collection of family group sheets, and the Davis family's migration from Wales in the early 1700s to the North Carolina and Virginia regions shortly before the outbreak of the American Revolution (1775-1783). The family's involvement in the Mexican War (1846-1848) and the United States Civil War (1861-1865) is also included. Prominent surnames include Drury, Fittspatrick (Fitzpatrick), Broyles, Barnes, Dalmeyer, Newhall (Newell), and Sutton. Primary locations include Smith and Macon counties in Tennessee; Essex County, Massachusetts; Platte County, Missouri; Bedford County, Virginia; and Fulton County, Illinois.
