Call for Articles
The Bulletin invites readers to submit original articles for publication.
We seek articles that are of interest to members of the GFO, and those that encourage the sharing and research of family history. We appreciate articles about families with Northwest connections, but welcome articles with any geographic focus. Possibilities include but are not limited to:
- memoirs and biographical sketches
- problem-solving articles
- research articles and source guides
- articles on family history travel
- how-to articles
- book reviews
- transcriptions or extractions from original sources
Submission of relevant photographs or other graphics is encouraged.
Who may submit material?
The Bulletin welcomes articles from GFO members and non-members alike; anyone who has interesting genealogical material to share.
Agreements and Editing
Copyright on articles is held by the authors and used by permission. The GFO Writer Agreement may be downloaded below.
Submission Instructions
Electronic submissions are preferred. Submit your material with your contact information, a brief biographical statement, and a signed GFO Writer Agreement. Text and images should be sent as separate files. Include a list of submitted images with proposed captions at the end of your article or as a separate document. Send submissions to bulletin@gfo.org. Please contact the editor before mailing or delivering any hard copy submissions, or if you have materials that must be scanned.
Style
All articles are edited following guidelines in the latest edition of the Chicago Manual of Style and the GFO Style Guide (below). Articles may also be edited for length or clarity. The editing and publication process is available below.
Sources
Authors are encouraged to provide adequate source citations for statements of fact that are not general knowledge or to attribute ideas or information from other sources. If used, source citations should follow the guidelines in Evidence Explained or the Chicago Manual of Style.
Copyrighted material cannot be used without permission from the copyright holder. Please do not submit images or text taken from the internet or other sources unless you have obtained written permission from the owner. Materials with a Creative Commons or similar license should have adequate attribution.
