GFO is Oregon’s largest genealogical library and exists through donations and volunteer efforts. There are three ways you can support the GFO:
- Give financial support
- Give books and research materials, equipment and office supplies, and "treasures" for our raffles
- Give personal papers or manuscripts.
Support us with a Monetary Donation
In addition to the General Fund, you may earmark your donation for a specific fund or cause.
Our Fundraising Policy can be found here.
Donate Your Car, Truck, Motorcycle, or Boat
Do you really want to continue to pay insurance, registration, maintenance and more for a vehicle you leave alone more than you drive? Donate it to the GFO instead! We'll arrange the pick-up of your vehicle donation, at no cost to you. You may qualify for a tax deduction while supporting a cause that is near and dear to your heart! Donate Books or other Items to the Library
Donations have fueled the growth of our Library. The GFO accepts all donations of books, electronic media, and genealogical publications. Please understand that materials may be added to the GFO Library collection offered free to other interested repositories or members, sold, traded, or discarded as deemed appropriate. See our Collection Development Policy for more information about the material that we want to collect. Questions about book donations? Please send us an email.
The Library sometimes accepts items that are important to maintaining the facility, such as computers, printers, or up-to-date AV equipment. Please contact the GFO to see if there is a current need for the equipment before bringing it to the Library. We also accept office supplies and paper. Anything we cannot use is offered free to our members. Questions? Send a message to our Technology Coordinator.
Donate Research and Personal Papers
As space permits, the GFO accepts non-published materials, The goal of the Digital Manuscripts Collection is to digitize and create finding aids for personal papers and related non-published materials. This allows access to resources that have unique genealogical value. The Manuscripts Committee manages the collection in accordance with the Library's Collection Development Policy.
Many of the collections we receive are a mix of personal papers, resource materials, photos, and other items. The GFO is not an archival facility. Once the material is sorted and digitized, it is recycled or occasionally distributed to an appropriate archive.
Materials of greatest value include:
- Genealogy charts and family group sheets
- Correspondence related to the families included in the collection
- Organized research notes and supporting materials
- Bible records whether originals or copies,
- Birth, marriage, and death announcements and labeled photographs of associated families.
The GFO welcomes monetary contributions to help defray the cost of digitizing and storing donated collections. At this time the GFO cannot accept material to be scanned and returned.
Please contact the Manuscripts Committee for more information or to make an appointment.
Donate to our Raffle
The GFO holds a raffle at seminars and a few other events. We are happy to receive donations of new or gently used items that would be of interest to our members. Suggestions include genealogically related books, travel bags, artwork, and gift certificates. Services could include research or organizational help.
