A service was held here Thursday in recognition of the young men who have gone from Philomath College in answer to their country’s call, including graduates and former students.
President Epley made a short address, and a poem by Mrs. Epley was read. But the main address was made by Fred W. Jones, who graduated three years ago from the college. He joined the colors nearly a year ago, and is now on furlough, having just married Miss Ada Latham, of Hazel Green, also a graduate of the institution. Mr. Jones gave a vivid account of life at Camp Lewis, experiences at drill, at lectures, at movies, etc.
The community service flag now hangs in the Philomath State Bank building. The college service flag, with the stars arranged in form of the letters “P C,” with one star in each corner, now hangs over the platform of the college chapel with the United States flag draped above.
