Of special interest are a copy and transcript of a letter written during the Civil War by W. W. Lyon.

The most common surnames in the collection are Baker, Eli, Malston, Moffett, Watts, and Yates. The families emigrated from England and Scotland. They first settled in Virginia, Kansas, and Indiana and lived in Virginia, Indiana, Kansas, Oregon, and Washington.
