Abstract: The McLean Smith Collection is a compilation of personal family history research covering several decades. Items include correspondence with other researchers and archivists in both the United States and Canada. Many files include ancestor charts and family group sheets. There are also several files of family photos. Most photos are identified by name. Mrs. Smith researched her own family lines and those of her first husband. Prominent surnames within the collection include Evans, Hecox, Man (Mann), MacLeary, McLean (MacLean), McTavish, Marquis, Marshall, and Yockey. According to the research contained in this material, the McLean branch of the family migrated to New England from Scotland, moved to Canada, and eventually to the Midwest and Northwest United States. The most common locations in the U.S. were Kentucky, Missouri, New York, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, and Washington.
