Abstract:

The manuscript collection of Carolyn Bergeron provides a wealth of information for anyone connected to her family tree. Following in her father’s footsteps, Carolyn spent years corresponding with researchers across the country before records were available online. This correspondence contains information found in visits to local courthouses and churches, including birth, marriage, and death records, land deeds, and probate records. There are timelines for some of her searches. In addition, there are Bible transcripts and personal recollections of people since deceased. The correspondence and records are organized in surname groups, accompanied by family group sheets and pedigree charts. Carolyn also created manuscripts that contain biographical sketches, with many photos, personal letters dating as far back as the 1920s, and original documents.

The most common surnames in the collection are Bergeron, Hadley, Jaques, Johnson, Landry, Mudge, Osburn, Thayer, Thompson, and Wanner. The Bergeron side of the tree comes from Canada. The Johnson side has roots in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, North Carolina, Missouri, and Oregon.
