Join us for a three-part, hands-on class on beginning your genealogy. This class is open to all, but is specifically designed for those just beginning their genealogical journey.

All sessions are in-person and held at the Genealogical Forum of Oregon (GFO) Library, 2505 SE 11th Ave, Portland.

Pricing:

  • Members - $30 
  • Non-Members - $40
  • Bundle an annual membership with the GFO (12 months) - $82 

Member pricing applies to members of the GFO.

Introduction, genealogical forms, and online search for your relatives in the U.S. and Canada. How to do free searches from home!

Saturday, June 14, 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM
Vital records, the U.S. Census, how to evaluate and record sources and evidence. Pitfalls to avoid.

Saturday, June 21, 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM
More useful record types. The "100 milestone". The benefits of genealogical software and how to use it. Deciding between paper & digital. How to get further help as you advance your research. 

Each session consists of a 1.5-hour talk and hands-on assistance with research using GFO's computer lab.

What to Bring:
Participants should bring a notebook. You are also invited to bring any research or notes you have already made and a laptop computer for the hands-on portion. (Several databases can be used from your own laptop.)

Participants are also encouraged to sign up for the free Access to GFO Resources class on July 12.
