  • In 1900, Oregon had a population of 413,536. Multnomah County had population of 103,167 and was the only county which enumerated more than 100,000 persons.

  • In 1940, Oregon reported a population of 1,089,684, the first census exceeding one million. Multnomah was still the only county reporting more than 100,000 persons; the count was 355,099.

  • By 1950, Oregon's population had increased to 1,521,341, a 40% increase over 1940. Multnomah county was up to 471,537. For the first time, two other counties exceeded 100,000 in population. Lane County surged to 125,776 from 69,096. Marion County just made it by growing to 101,401 from 75,246.

  • As of the 2010 census, 9 of 36 counties had a population exceeding 100,000. The 2013 estimate has Yamhill county also over 100,000.
