This group meets in person at the GFO Library in Portland, Oregon.
The SIG is a support group for those researching Canadian ancestors and applying for Canadian citizenship certificates (proof of citizenship) for individuals who are eligible for citizenship by descent under Canada’s 2025 revisions to the Citizenship Act. We have a couple dozen regular attendees who are interested in the latter, and so that will probably remain the primary focus.
Each meeting includes an update on the latest news affecting applicants, such as new procedures and requirements from the Canadian government.
You don't have to be a GFO member to participate.
To get the most out of the SIG, we encourage you to bring your own application and whatever evidence you have gathered so far. There is no charge for anyone attending regular SIG meetings. The SIG occasionally offers special workshops for a small fee.
