  • What is the best day to visit the library?

The library is open from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday and from noon to 5:00 pm Sunday, and those are the easiest days to find parking. The best day to spend a long day at the library is Wednesday. We are open from 9:30am - 8:00pm. If you come in the morning, park in Zone G, then come into the library and pay $1 for a parking permit for Zone G. Put the permit on your car to allow parking for the rest of the day. At about 6pm, you can move your car and park it alongside the building (there's no parking there from 4-6 pm) so it will be close if you stay until 8pm. There is almost always space in the pay lot off 11th behind the building. It's limited to 2 hours and cannot be renewed to extend the time. The lot directly across 11th is an all-day pay to park lot and the cost is $7.

  • Where can I park?

Go to the Visit Us page for more parking information.

  • Are there any restaurants in the area?

Yes, several. there is a cafe on the first floor of the building, and also other delicious restaurant options just across the street. There are many more within a short driving distance.

  • Is there disabled access to the library?

Yes, there is disabled access to the building and to the library. There is also disabled access to the restrooms.
Regarding parking, the lot behind the Ford building has one designated ADA spot. It has a two-hour limit. Portland has specific rules addressing parking on the street.

Time Zone Parking Privileges in Portland: No Time Limit at 30 minutes and longer zones. Observe time limit in zones under 30 minutes.

Parking Prohibited: Disabled person plates or permit do not allow parking privileges except as described above. Disabled person plates or permit do not extend time limits in areas designated for special use and do not allow vehicle storage over 24 hours on public right-of-way.

  • Can I visit the library for free just to check it out?

Yes! The library is open for non-members on the first Monday of every month. You can stop by any day the library is open for a tour of our resources by one of our associates. Also, for a small fee you can use the library on a daily basis as a visitor.
